Terms of Service
Acceptance of Terms
By downloading, accessing, or using the Pipe Dreams Delivered mobile application, website, or any related services (collectively, the ‘Platform’), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service (‘Terms’). If you do not agree, do not use the Platform.
We may update these Terms at any time. Continued use after changes are posted constitutes acceptance. Material changes will be communicated via in-app notice or email.
Platform Description — PDD Is a Marketplace Only
PDD IS NOT A PLUMBING COMPANY. We do not employ contractors, perform plumbing services, or directly provide any home repair services. We are a technology platform that connects independent contractors and homeowners.
PDD provides:
- A marketplace where homeowners submit service requests and contractors claim jobs
- A lead distribution system for licensed Ontario contractors
- In-app chat between homeowners and contractors for active jobs
- Escrow-style payment processing through Stripe
- Live contractor location sharing during active jobs so homeowners can track arrival
- Verified work certificates, Home Passport, and Home Score features
- An apprenticeship progress tracking system for Student accounts
- Educational content, DIY guides, and supplier partner links
User Accounts and Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years of age to create an account. By creating an account you confirm this. You agree to:
- Provide accurate, current, and complete information
- Maintain the security of your credentials
- Notify us immediately of any unauthorized account access
- Take responsibility for all activity under your account
Contractors must hold a valid Ontario plumbing licence, maintain current liability insurance, and provide truthful business and credential information. Contractor accounts begin in ‘pending’ status and must be approved by PDD admin before accessing leads. Providing false credentials is grounds for immediate termination and may be reported to regulatory authorities.
Student accounts access Trade Academy, apprenticeship hour tracking, and Red Seal progress features. Hour logs may only be submitted by approved contractors. Student public profile data (name, email, verified hours) is accessible to contractors for apprentice lookup purposes.
By creating an account, you consent to the data processing described in our Privacy Policy. Your consent timestamp, version, and scope are recorded in your account. See the Privacy Policy for full details.
Contractor Verification — Limitations and Disclaimers
At the time of registration, PDD admin reviews submitted contractor credentials including the Ontario licence number, insurance provider, policy number, and expiry date. Approved contractors receive a ‘Verified by PDD’ stamp showing the review date in the app.
OUR VERIFICATION PROCESS IS LIMITED. IT DOES NOT CONSTITUTE A GUARANTEE OF CONTRACTOR QUALITY, SAFETY, OR CURRENT COMPLIANCE.
Specifically, our verification does not include:
- Ongoing monitoring of licence or insurance status after approval
- Criminal background checks
- Credit checks
- Verification of skill level, work quality, or customer satisfaction history
- Confirmation that insurance policies remain active beyond the submitted expiry date
Licences and insurance can expire, be revoked, or become inactive after our initial review. PDD is not responsible for monitoring ongoing compliance.
Homeowners are solely responsible for independently verifying contractor credentials before authorizing work. We strongly recommend checking:
- Skilled Trades Ontario: skilledtradesontario.ca
- The contractor’s insurance provider directly
- Better Business Bureau or other consumer protection resources
Independent Contractor Relationship
Contractors on the platform are independent businesses, not PDD employees or agents. PDD does not:
- Employ, supervise, or control contractors
- Set contractor pricing or work methods
- Provide workers’ compensation or employment benefits to contractors
- Issue T4 slips to contractors
When a contractor claims a job, the service agreement is directly between the homeowner and the contractor. PDD is not a party to that agreement and has no liability for the work performed.
Live Location Tracking
When a contractor has an active job, the contractor’s device shares real-time GPS coordinates with the platform. The homeowner assigned to that job can view the contractor’s live location on a map.
Before location tracking begins, the app displays a disclosure and requests device location permission. Granting foreground location permission is required for live tracking. Background location enables more reliable updates when the app is minimized. You may decline background permission; foreground tracking will still function while the app is open.
Location tracking stops automatically when the job is no longer in an active status. Location data is stored in the job record for operational purposes and is subject to the retention schedule in the Privacy Policy.
By accepting a job and granting location permission, you consent to this tracking behavior.
In-App Chat and Messages
The platform provides in-app messaging between homeowners and contractors for active jobs. Messages are stored in our database for the duration of the job and the applicable retention period. Do not share sensitive financial information, passwords, or personal data unrelated to the job through the chat system.
PDD may review message content where required for dispute resolution, legal compliance, or platform safety investigations.
Payments, Escrow, and Stripe Connect
All payments are processed through Stripe. By making a payment, you also agree to Stripe’s Terms of Service. PDD does not store raw credit card numbers.
When a homeowner submits a job, payment is collected upfront and held in escrow. Funds are released to the contractor after the homeowner confirms completion (or automatically after a set window). The escrow fee is included in the quoted amount shown before checkout.
Contractors receive payouts through Stripe Connect. Contractors must complete Stripe’s onboarding process and link a bank account before receiving payouts. Stripe’s identity verification and payout schedules are governed by Stripe’s Connect Terms.
PDD charges a platform fee on each completed job. The fee rate depends on your subscription tier:
| Subscription Tier | Platform Fee |
|---|---|
| Free | 20% |
| Pro | 15% |
| Enterprise | 10% |
Fee rates are visible in the contractor’s Invoices screen. We may adjust fee rates with 30 days’ notice.
Contractor subscription plans are billed monthly. Lead credits are sold in packages. All subscription and credit purchases are non-refundable except in cases of verified technical error or unauthorized fraudulent activity reported within 48 hours. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period — no prorated refunds.
Homeowner warranty plans are billed monthly through Stripe. These are prepaid service plans only, not insurance products. No coverage is guaranteed under provincial insurance regulations. Plans may be managed through the Stripe Billing Portal.
Apprenticeship and Student Features
Apprentice hour logs submitted through the platform are recorded with the supervising contractor’s licence number and constitute a representation by the contractor that the hours and work description are accurate. Submitting false hour logs may be reported to the relevant provincial apprenticeship authority.
Student OCOT progress reports generated by the platform are based solely on hours logged through PDD and should not be treated as official government records without independent verification.
Dispute Resolution Between Users
PDD DOES NOT MEDIATE OR RESOLVE DISPUTES BETWEEN HOMEOWNERS AND CONTRACTORS. Disputes about work quality, pricing, property damage, or payment must be resolved directly between the parties.
The platform includes a dispute flow (visible to both parties and PDD admin) for flagging issues. Contractors may submit evidence through the dispute screen. PDD admin may review flagged disputes and may remove contractors for verified violations, but we do not adjudicate contractual disputes and our involvement does not constitute an admission of liability.
Available dispute remedies outside PDD:
- Skilled Trades Ontario (OCOT): skilledtradesontario.ca
- Ontario Small Claims Court
- Better Business Bureau
- Your homeowner’s insurance provider
Educational Content and Affiliate Links
DIY guides, videos, Trade Academy content, and all educational materials on the platform are for informational purposes only. They do not constitute professional plumbing advice. Attempting plumbing work based on platform content is entirely at your own risk. PDD is not liable for personal injury, property damage, code violations, failed inspections, or any other losses resulting from DIY attempts.
Always hire a licensed professional for gas line work, major repairs, permitted work, or any situation involving safety risk.
The platform includes affiliate and supplier links. PDD may earn commissions when you purchase through these links at no additional cost to you. Affiliate relationships do not constitute endorsement of specific products. Third-party websites have their own terms and privacy policies.
Limitation of Liability
The following provisions significantly limit PDD’s legal liability. Please review each subsection carefully before using the platform.
The platform is provided without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or uninterrupted operation.
PDD is not liable for:
- Quality, safety, timeliness, or legality of contractor work
- Contractor misconduct, negligence, fraud, or criminal acts
- Property damage or personal injury caused by contractors
- Contractor failure to appear or complete work
- Financial losses from contractor actions or inactions
To the maximum extent permitted by law, PDD’s total liability for any claim arising from platform use shall not exceed the amount you paid to PDD in the 12 months preceding the claim, or $100 CAD, whichever is less.
PDD is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including lost profits, loss of data, cost of substitute services, property damage, or personal injury — even if advised of the possibility of such damages.
Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless PDD, its officers, directors, employees, and agents from claims, damages, losses, and expenses (including legal fees) arising from:
- Your use of the platform
- Your violation of these Terms
- Services performed by contractors you hire through the platform
- Disputes with other users
Intellectual Property and Reverse Engineering
The Platform, including its mobile application, website, source code, algorithms, database structure, matching logic, scoring systems (including Home Score and Home Passport), dispatch workflows, apprenticeship tracking systems, user interface designs, and all related proprietary technology (collectively, “PDD Technology”), is the exclusive intellectual property of Pipe Dreams Delivered and is protected under Canadian copyright law, trade secret law, and applicable intellectual property legislation.
You agree not to:
- Reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, or attempt to derive the source code, algorithms, or underlying logic of any part of the Platform
- Copy, reproduce, modify, adapt, or create derivative works based on PDD Technology without our express written permission
- Use automated tools, scripts, or any technical means to extract, scrape, or replicate the structure, data relationships, or logic of the Platform
- Access or attempt to access any part of the Platform’s backend, APIs, or infrastructure beyond what is expressly provided for your role as a user
- Use any information gained through use of the Platform to build, assist in building, or advise on any competing product or service
- Remove, obscure, or alter any proprietary notices, copyright markings, or attributions within the Platform
Any unauthorized use of PDD Technology constitutes misappropriation of trade secrets and infringement of intellectual property rights. PDD reserves the right to seek injunctive relief, damages, and all other remedies available under Ontario law and Canadian federal law, including under the Copyright Act (R.S.C. 1985, c. C-42) and applicable trade secret protections.
All rights not expressly granted to you in these Terms are reserved by Pipe Dreams Delivered. No licence to PDD Technology is granted by implication, estoppel, or otherwise.
Account Termination
You may close your account using the ‘Delete My Data’ option in the app drawer or by emailing info@pipedreamsdelivered.com. No refunds are issued for unused subscription time or lead credits upon closure.
We may suspend or terminate your account immediately without refund for:
- Violation of these Terms
- Fraud or misrepresentation
- Abusive conduct
- Non-payment or chargebacks
- Circumventing platform fees
Outstanding payment obligations survive termination.
Governing Law and Jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the applicable federal laws of Canada. Any legal proceedings shall be brought exclusively in the courts of Ontario. You consent to personal jurisdiction in Ontario courts.
For disputes between you and PDD: before filing any claim, you agree to contact us at info@pipedreamsdelivered.com to attempt good faith resolution. If unresolved, disputes may be submitted to binding arbitration in Ontario under the Arbitration Act, 1991, at our option.
To the extent permitted by law, you agree to bring claims against PDD only in your individual capacity, not as a plaintiff or class member in any class or representative proceeding.
Privacy
Your use of the platform is governed by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference.
Severability and Entire Agreement
If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, it will be modified to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions remain in full force. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and any transaction-specific terms, constitute the entire agreement between you and PDD.
